Summer School & Social: A Potpourri of Qualified Retirement Topics

Please join us as we learn and socialize. Class from 3-5pm with social immediately following. All members, LAP holders and first-time guests welcome to social even if you cannot join us for class. Returning guests that attend class are also welcome to social.

Abstract
: Our panel of instructors will cover a wide variety of topics including fiduciary best practices, available insurance for retirement plan committee members, the different flavors of fiduciaries, vendor review and fee benchmarking (what should plan sponsor and other fiduciaries look out for), minimum coverage rules, controlled groups, affiliated service groups, auto enrollment, changing landscape of plan investments, achieving better participant retirement outcomes, common mistakes found in CPA audits, cross-tested plans and cash balance plans.


2 hr NC CIE, CFP, CLE and CPE approved as a single two-hour course.

Speakers:

Kyle Corum, CPA, CFE, is a partner with Bernard Robinson and Company.  With over 14 years of experience, Kyle leads the Firm's consulting practice which focuses on forensic investigations, due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, quality of earnings, internal control engagements, and cyber security. 

In addition, Kyle also focuses on Employee Benefit Plans and oversees these audits and helps clients with their ERISA issues.

Kyle is a 2002 graduate of Appalachian State University with a major in accounting.

Troy Jackson, Jr., AIF, CEBS,is Regional Vice President of Sales for the retirement plans division of Ameritas. Troy leads an experienced sales team that is dedicated to helping financial professionals, brokers and TPAs prospect and sell retirement programs to businesses.

Troy is a veteran of the financial services industry and brings a wealth of experience to his role at Ameritas,including successful engagements with Lincoln Financial, The Standard Life Insurance Company and The PrincipalFinancial Group.  In addition to his Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation, Certified Employee BenefitsSpecialist (CEBS) designation and his life, health and variable licenses, Troy holds FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63registrations.  Most recently Troy was recognized as one of NAPA’s Top 100 DC Industry Wholesalers receiving their 2017 Wingmen Award.  Troy is a graduate of Wake Forest University and lives in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Mike has been involved with qualified plans, and their underlying investments, since 1977.  He has worked in banking, insurance, stock brokerage, and pension consulting.  He managed Jefferson Pilot Financial’s Pension Division for the last seven years of his thirteen years in the Pension Division.  During that period of time he was on two national retirement plan committees. 

Mike is a Certified Pension Consultant with the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries.  He also has earned the Chartered Financial Consultant designation and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation.  A 1974 graduate with a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia, Mike also has a Master of Science in Financial Services from the American College.

Mike is a current Board member, and a past President, of the Greensboro Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.


Mark Vaughn  is a founder and owner of MVP Plan Administrators, Inc. in Cary, NC.  


Mark has been assisting small business owners with the development, design, administration, and record-keeping of qualified retirement plans for over 20 years.  Mark has spoken at industry events including CAI and North Carolina Association of CPAs, and before various advisory firms covering diverse topics from cash balance plans to common plan mistakes.  For his work in the retirement plan industry, Mark has been recognized by the National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA) as their 2018 Volunteer of the Year.


Mark is a 1992 graduate of Harding University.
