Jack is an innovation lawyer.  He combines creative legal insight with bulldog tenacity to ensure that our intellectual property laws properly fuel the genius of discovery and production of new and useful innovations. By combining global intellectual property laws with committed efforts to understand a client’s business, Jack crafts legal strategies that integrate client needs with the requirement for business success.

Jack’s clients represent a diverse group of manufacturing and services providers, including especially the furniture, outdoor recreation, apparel, nanotechnology and aerospace industry sectors. Jack helps lead the firm’s Manufacturing Industry Sector.Jack brings a client’s perspective in particular to patent matters. Prior to becoming an attorney, Jack was a design engineer on airborne radar and optics applications of a major aerospace company. 

A global practitioner, Jack represents clients based outside the US, including Europe and Asia.  He has worked on projects at the European Patent Office in Germany and the European Union Designs Department in Spain. At both institutions, he contributed eLearning materials intended to help US companies pursue targeted and cost-effective intellectual property protection throughout Europe. As an Adjunct Law Professor, Jack frequently leads Law and MBA student trips throughout Asia and Europe.

Cyber Liability: Risks and Best Practices for You and Your Client

Abstract:

In this course we will discuss the exposures that Financial Advisors and Clients face in the area of Cyber Liability and Breach Response. There will be a review of the Insurance Coverage options and proper Risk Management procedures. You will also learn about the Legal duties imposed on the owners of data and attending breach notification requirements. Real world Cyber Claims examples will be presented as a learning tool to facilitate retaining and sharing this information. Attendees will leave with practical knowledge that will allow them to better protect Privileged Information and advise clients on these complicated Privacy issues.

Tim Ward has over 40 years of experience in Property & Casualty Insurance. He joined Senn Dunn/ Marsh & McLennan Agency in 1988 after working for several P&C Companies and Agencies. Tim has a BS in Business Administration from UNC-CH. He has a background in every facet of the insurance industry.

Tim works with clients on their Business Insurance coverages, specializing in handling the risk management and exposures associated with large manufacturers, suppliers, property owners, hospitality and professional offices. He has an extensive background in Personal Insurance and Life Insurance coverages, in addition to managing the Medical Professional Liability division at MMA. With more than 25 years of experience in the Malpractice field, he is recognized statewide for his expertise on issues involving insurance and the Medical Profession.

Active in the industry, Tim has served on the board of directors of the Piedmont Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society (CPCU), the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP), the North Carolina Reinsurance Facility and the North Carolina Association of Insurance Agents. He is one of the senior members of the IIANC Technical Committee, a resource for agents seeking technical help on complex issues. One of his focus areas is the rapidly growing exposure to Cyber Liability/Data Breach losses and how to address them.
