Abstract: In this course we will discuss the changes to the NC Power of Attorney Statute that went into effect on January 1, 2018. This course will review how the new Power Of Attorney Statute changes both the fields of estate planning and estate litigation. This course will review both the statute itself as well as real life examples of how the changes to the statute can be used by both attorneys and financial advisors to best serve their client’s needs.

Practicing since 1987, Steve focuses his practice on estate and trust litigation, general fiduciary litigation, insurance defense litigation, insurance coverage litigation, business litigation, commercial collections, and general practice litigation. Steve formerly served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corp specializing in criminal defense as well as labor and employment discrimination. Most recently, Steve has worked towards pioneering the new litigation remedies available under the new North Carolina Power of Attorney Statute by filing Guilford County’s first demand for accounting from a fiduciary accused of misappropriating funds.

Blane Stanaland, JD

Blane Stanaland is an estate planning attorney and lifelong resident Greensboro. Blane graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Blane then graduated from Michigan State Law School with a Juris Doctor and a Master of Jurisprudence and decided to return to Greensboro to work in his family law practice with his father, Terry Stanaland. Blane specializes in providing wills, trusts, and powers of attorney for clients as well as administering estates. Blane enjoys working closely with clients and their advisors to ensure clients have an optimal level of financial security.
